Butterfly Magic Trick Decks

Butterfly Playing Cards Trick Decks let you perform miracles without any challenging sleight of hand. These decks do most of the work for you.

Let us introduce our trick deck lineup and explain what these decks offer.

Introduction

Trick decks are specially customized decks for magic. They let you perform magic tricks that standard decks don't. When the features of trick decks combine with the secrets of Butterfly Playing Cards, you have a powerful tool in your hands.

What makes the Butterfly Trick Decks special?

  • They combine the features of the trick decks with our trademark marking system. You can always check that everything is going according to plan. Back-up is always welcome.
  • They are handmade by our team in Prague, one card at a time, to ensure the best quality. The One-Way Force Decks are also assembled in our warehouse in Prague.
  • Every deck comes wrapped in a custom sleeve. The sleeves of the Side Stripper, End Stripper, and Svengali Decks have the signature of the person who made that exact deck.
  • Each tuck box has a small color sticker, allowing you to easily differentiate the trick decks from standard ones after you remove the sleeve.

The Butterfly Trick Decks are available in a few editions, including the Piña Playing Cards.

Let’s look at the different trick decks we make and offer.

The Trick Decks

Side Stripper Deck

The stripper deck is one of the most popular gimmicked decks in magic. The Side Stripper Deck is tapered on the long edges to provide control over any desired number of cards. The name stripper deck comes from the action of stripping out a card from the deck.

A big part of the Butterfly Playing Cards' capabilities is based on the one-way orientation of all the cards in the deck. The Side Stripper Deck will help you retain and quickly sort the cards in a one-way order. It enhances the visibility of the one-way markings of the reversed cards in the deck*.

Thanks to the Side Stripper deck, you can quickly cut to the selected card(s) without looking at the deck, and it allows for as many effects as possible with the stripper deck.

One of the biggest advantages of stripper decks is that they look just like standard playing cards. You can perform with them even without using the stripper deck features. And when you get to a stripper deck trick, you already have it.

*This applies to the Butterfly Side and End Stripper Decks made from borderless Butterfly Playing Cards (Second and Third Edition).

End Stripper Deck

This is a lesser-known but equally valuable variation of the stripper deck. The End Stripper Deck provides the same features as the Side Stripper Deck but is tapered on the short edges, perfect for controlling cards with an overhand shuffle or swing cuts.

Svengali Deck

It doesn’t matter where the spectator says stop or cuts the cards. You will always know the card they landed on.

The Svengali Deck is an extremely useful tool for magic and mentalism. It lets you perform mind-blowing magic tricks without any sleight of hand and can be used for hundreds of effects.

The Svengali deck is gimmicked, so the spectator always cuts to the same card. The deck allows you to display it with either different cards or only a single card throughout.

One-Way Force Deck

These decks consist of 52 identical cards. You may be wondering what that is good for.

As the name suggests, you can use it to force the desired card flawlessly onto your spectator. It doesn't matter which card they pick. It will always be the one you want.

One-Way Force Decks are also excellent sources for duplicates. If you let the spectators sign and keep the cards, the force deck is a great way to replace it quickly. Do you like performing “Torn and Restored” routines or folding cards? You might find the One-Way Force Deck very handy.

The End

One of the best sources to learn magic with the stripper, Svengali, and force decks is Jean Hugard’s Encyclopedia of Card Tricks. This book contains hundreds of card tricks, with chapters devoted to magic with the above-mentioned gimmicked decks.

If you’d like to learn more about stripper decks and how to use them, we highly recommend Ryan Plunkett and Michael Feldman’s book A New Angle. This book offers unique and unconventional use ideas for stripper decks.

Are you already familiar with the Svengali deck, and would you like to explore it more? Ben Harris's Symmetry, Parity, and the Chimera Deck project explores the concept behind the Svengali deck and includes three unique gaff decks.
